A Cisco SG500X-24P running 1.2.0.81 firmware fails to upgrade to anything newer. Firmware 1.3.5.x isn’t accepted in WebUI (Copy failed; Copy: Illegal software format). Firmware 1.2.0.97 is accepted, but the system won’t boot from it; after upload and setting as Active image and rebooting, the switch reboots, panics, then factory resets and comes up again on 1.2.0.81 with factory defaults. (You can tell this is the case because the device reverts to login/password cisco/cisco.)
Error message
This is what you see using the console cable if you are experiencing this issue.
Workaround
- Flash boot to 1.4.0.2 via WebUI and reboot. Confirm upgrade is successful; system firmware should still be at 1.2.0.81 as expected.
- Attach to console using SecureCRT. 115200 baud.
- Grab the full path to the 1.3.5 firmware; the timeout in the bootloader is very short. i.e. d:firmwaresx500_fw-13558.ros
- Reboot switch.
- Hit Esc. at bootloader prompt and send firmware via XMODEM, pasting the filename quickly.
- Wait 45 minutes while it transfers at 3kB/s.
- Switch should reboot on 1.3.5.58.

Cisco Switches :: SG300–20 — Password Lost After Firmware Update V1.2.7.76

I have a problem. Yesterday I have upgraded both my SG300–20 switches to firmware v1.2.7.76. Now I cannot login on of my switches, unknown username and password. I am absolutly sure I have the password, because they are the same and I just upgraded it. I have re-booted the switch, but without any luck.
Cisco Switches :: Linksys SRW2016 Switch Serial Console Not Working
Jan 5, 2011
I have had the switch for about 2 years and recently moved. The manual specifies:
38400 bps and 8-n-1 serial port settings using DB9F to DB9F cable.
I have done this and tried using multiple machines/ports/cables as well as several peices of software (minicom, PuTTy, hyperterminal) and none give me any output from the switch at all.
The trouble is that in its original config, it had 1 port locked into its own VLAN for management with port security and an obscure RFC1918 IP address which I cannot recall for the life of me.
At this point, I have no access to TCP/IP management so serial console is my last hope and is not working.

D-Link DIR-615 :: Can’t Update Firmware
Nov 12, 2011
I have a DIR-615 router, hardware rev. C1 running firmware v. 3.10, dated 4/17/09. I’ve been beating my head against the wall trying to get this router to properly forward ports for a bit torrent application, but it not only won’t do that, it doesn’t want to save DHCP reservations and it doesn’t want to recognize my computer on the LAN if I set a static IP address (although it does allow my computer to connect and get an internet connection). From the D-Link website, the description of firmware update 3.12NA looks like it might take care of these problems, but I can’t get the router to update. When I log into the router and check for updates, it returns a message saying the latest update is v. 3.11, dated 9/15/09. However, when I attempt to download the update, nothing happens. The D-Link website offers update 3.11NA (4/20/09), 3.12NA (3/8/10), and 3.13NA (9/30/10). Why does the website offer me a different update than the router itself? I downloaded 3.13NA and unzipped the folder, which has a text file and a .bin file; I presume the latter is the update. However, when I browse to this file and attempt to upload it to the router, nothing happens. How the heck do I update this router?

Cisco Wireless :: Firmware Update For WRVS4400Nv2?
Oct 4, 2009
I have this piece at my home and just realized today that there is a new firmware available on the cisco web page. It has made the device more stable, but the most noticeable improvement is in the UI. Previously it was a linksys for business UI that was pretty much exactly like the consumer products. After the upgrade it is now a Cisco small business UI. I think that this will make the resellers take the products more seriously as a small business piece rather than an upgraded residential product.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N — Can’t Update Firmware
Nov 13, 2012
We need to update the firmware for a small business router WRVS4400N. Unfortunately, I can’t even burn the ISO file to CD after downloading it as instructed. I get the following error message: ‘The selected disk image file Isn’t valid.’ I’m using a Windows 7 Ultimate computer.
I downloaded the proper firmware update for my version V2.0.1.3 router several times, but each time I get the same message.
The main reason we purchased this router for our business for for the extra layer of protection with ProtectLink. It has been over two years now, and we still have not got our ProtectLink service installed because we are unable to install the service until the firmware is updated.
After doing some research online, we found-out that the ISO file needs to be padded to 2 Kb in order to be valid for burning. The ISO firmware file you provide for this update is not according to my calculations. We have no way of converting the file myself and don’t know what to do about this situation.
We are extremely taken-back at the fact that I must submit my issue here on a forum rather than address the issue directly to Cisco Support. We are very disappointed with Cisco support as they appear to want to charge additional money just to get an initial shipped-problem remedied. You would think that the company that essential built the internet infrastructure would be more considerate to their customers. We will never purchase another Cisco product given this level of terrible support.

Wifi Down After Router Firmware Update
Apr 19, 2011
Here’s what we have at the house;
1 — Motorola Modem (horrible ISP)
2 — Dlink DIR 655 wireless router (about 2–3 years old)
3–2 laptops (windows 7/both)
4 — DirecTV broadband box (can’t remember how that hooked up to the router?)
5 — Playstation 3
6 — (3) DTV sat receivers
The problem started while trying to connect the PS3 to the existing network. Only one laptop is wifi, the other laptop and Ps3 are in my room and wired in to the router, and the strange little DirecTV box is in the wired mix(for on-demand i guess?) The PS3 could not log-in to the PSNetwork(still can’t), but it could browse the web just fine. So I start manually typing in IP addresses, 6 IP’s in all, including the sharing of 3 DTV boxes that show up on the network on my admin laptop. Didn’t work, so I get into the DLink router URL and start opening up ports that PSNetwork uses. At this point I think I have it figured out, then I did a firmware update on the router. My laptop, the PS3(internet, no PSNetwork) and even the little DTV box was working fine, all wired in, using 3 of the four ports. The old lady’s laptop in the living room not only couldn’t get on-line, it couldn’t detect a wifi network? So try to set up a new real quick before I left this AM. No beans!! I looked at the specs for the router, the firmware is up to date but from early 2010, and the features say ‘NO’ to gaming support.
Do I get another router that can handle all the devices and is PS3 friendly, if that’s even a thing!? I can’t roll back the firmware update cause I wasn’t able to back up the settings, and honestly theres a good chance I did something really bad as far as trying to tweak that router to open up ports for the specific IP address that goes to the game console. We’ll call it 191.55.55.99. When I thought I was finished, the PS3 IP address had switched to 191.55.55.98? So it dropped down a number, I thought it was static, and all my efforts were for the — 99 IP address, basically I have network issues consisting of Satalite tv boxes, a public DTV share folder, a video game console, one wired and one wireless, and a router that I WANT TO SET ON FIRE!
RT-N53 5Ghz Radio Gone After Firmware Update
Jan 14, 2013
I have been using the Asus RT-n53 for about a year now and had little to no problems with it. Lately, my wife’s iPhone has been dropping its connection to the RT-n53. It was probably a problem with her piece of apple crap, but I thought I would update the firmware on the RT-n53. I found that my firmware was way out of date, so I updated to the latest version.
With the newest firmware installed, I can no longer detect the 5Ghz band with my PlayBook. Before the update, all of the other devices in the house were not 5Ghz capable, so my PlayBook was the only device that used the 5Ghz radio on the RT-n53. Now, the SSID for the 5Ghz band just isn’t there any more. In the configuration settings for the RT-n53, everything points to ‘it should be working’.. 5Ghz radio is enabled, SSID broadcast is enabled. I have tried changing the wireless mode from ‘N Only’ to ‘Auto’ to ‘Legacy’. I have fiddled with channel settings, encryption settings, etc. Even tried changing the SSID a few times. Multiple reboot, and still, the 5Ghz SSID just doesn’t appear on any devices.

D-Link DIR-825 :: WRT54GL — Can’t Update Firmware

I just bought my DIR-825 from Frys and it came stock with 2.02NA B1 firmware, but everytime I try to update it to 2.03/2.04/2.05/2.06 it errors saying it might not be the same hardware or something on the lines of that. But now when I try to upload it, it just leads me to ‘192.168.0.1 was interrupted’ and can’t even get to the error screen now.I’m not too savvy when it comes to routers, especially a D-Link since previously I had a Linksys WRT54GL
D-Link DIR-655 :: Unable To Update Firmware?
Apr 27, 2010
Currently running firmware version 1.32NA on DIR-655 (hardware version A4). I have made multiple attempts at updating its firmware, first to 1.33NA and later to 1.34 Beta 3, with no success: on each occasion, it accepts the local .bin file upload, then claims to be in the process of applying the upload (with I think an 80 second countdown), and eventually comes back to the login page, still showing that it’s running firmware v1.32NA (verified after logon, refresh, etc — no update was applied). I have attempted this immediately after a soft reset of the router and even after a hard (power cycle) reset, but still no success.
(Any reason to think that the update might work if performed while the router is disconnected from the Internet? or after a configuration reset?
D-Link DIR-825 :: Update Firmware From Web Fails?
Apr 24, 2011
I bought my DIR-825 three months ago. The firmware seem to be from 2009, and the check-for-later-firmware functionality from the web interface tells me that my version (Current Firmware Version : 2.01EU) is the latest.
I don’t believe that the firmware from 2009 is the latest, but have no idea on how to proceed.
My hardware in the web interface say this: (Hardware Version: B1 Firmware Version: 2.01E
The problem I really have is related to PPTP pass through (I think), but I thought making sure I have the latest firmware is always a smart move.
So, can the firmware-checker of the web-interface fail, or do I have the latest firmware?
D-Link DIR-615 :: Firmware Update Won’t Load
Mar 31, 2013
I’ve been having wireless range issues lately with my dir-615: a lot of holes seemed to have popped up in my house despite nothing changed (house or router location). This is after at least 2–3 years of good coverage and no issues. Went to look at the firmware & found 2.0 installed. Found out online that (I think) firmware is now at 4.11. Tried to download and install but both finding the update and unzipping it proved challenging. Specifically for the latter, unzipping kept yielding more zipped packages, like a russian doll
